The chair of Landscape Ecology is a part of the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences. Nowadays the Division of Landscape Ecology and its various
projects link up several faculties and take part in the interdisciplinary
development of methods for the establishment of environmentally sound landuse
systems.
Therefore, teaching mainly focuses on the application of those fundamental principles and methods that are suitable for the future development of the cultural landscape and that take into account ecological goals and social as well as economic requirements.
Research primarily aims at clarifying and improving the living conditions of plants and animals in intensively used cultural landscapes. It has a strong emphasis on the habitat conditions and requirements of these organisms as well as on interactions between the different systems and their integration into the landscape.
Our investigations of the biology, the habitat requirements and the distribution of single species and species groups are either connected to these main research aims or serve to optimise indication procedures for environmental planning.
